Reed Smith announced Jami Segota rejoined its labor and employment practice in Philadelphia as counsel after five years at RICOH USA Inc., where she most recently served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Segota was an associate and counsel at Reed Smith from 1997 until mid-2009, then served as a contract attorney at the firm before joining RICOH as assistant general counsel for employment law in September 2013.
She became vice president, assistant general counsel for employment law at the global imaging and electronics company in September 2014, earning promotion to senior vice president and general counsel in October 2017.
A 1993 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Segota's experience includes litigation and counseling in employment claims involving discrimination, whistleblowing and wage and hour issues; Family Medical Leave Act and Americans with Disabilities Act matters; and employee benefits, restrictive covenant agreements and grievances and charges under the Labor Management Relations Act.
At RICOH, her responsibilities as vice president and assistant general counsel included overseeing and managing employee-related litigation, including class and collective wage and hour actions; providing advice and guidance on all personnel and employer-related issues, including employee relations and benefits; instituting process improvements and efficiencies; and developing and training the company's team addressing accommodations and leave-of-absence requests under the ADA and FMLA.
As senior vice president and general counsel, she served on RICOH's executive management team; provided oversight of the company's legal, ethics, compliance, corporate and information security and regulatory affairs in North America; led the development of its business continuity and emergency response plans; served on its ethics and retirement plans committees; and was sponsor of the company's business integrity team.

Daniel E. Cummins, of the Scranton law firm of Foley, Comerford & Cummins, presented a “Tort Talk Top 10 Case Law Update,” during which he highlighted recent cases and trends of note for practical advice for civil litigators.
This CLE seminar, which reviewed cases summarized on Cummins' Tort Talk Blog, was presented as a defense perspective at the recent “Personal Injury Potpourri” course put on by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre.
Cummins focuses his practice on the defense of automobile accident, premises liability and products liability cases and also assists in the settlement of civil litigation matters through Cummins Mediation Services.

The CLE program “Understanding Neuropsych and Psych Claims, Including Malingering, Symptom Exaggeration, and Pre-existing Conditions” is scheduled to be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. May 29 at Capehart Scatchard in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Dr. Brett J. Prince of the Jersey Shore University Medical Center is set to give the presentation and will discuss how to properly identify and manage red flags/risk factors present in psych, memory, neuropsych, head injury and pain claims.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
