Philadelphia attorney Ellen C. Brotman received the Charles P. Gelso President's Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
The President's Award is presented to a PACDL member in appreciation of contributions to the association. Brotman is a board member of PACDL and serves on the publications, amicus and lawyers' assistance committee. She is also co-chair of PACDL's CLE Committee.
Brotman is the founder and owner of BrotmanLaw; her practice focuses on professional responsibility, ethics and criminal defense.

McNees Wallace & Nurick attorney Denise Elliott is slated to speak at Strickler Agency's “How Medical Marijuana Affects Your Business” at the Carlisle Country Club on June 4.
Strickler Agency Inc. is an independent insurance agency with locations in Carlisle and Chambersburg.
As the key speaker, Elliott will discuss medical marijuana and how it affects employers in the commonwealth.
Elliott practices in the McNees labor and employment practice group where she focuses on defending self-insured employers in workers compensation matters and providing representation and counsel to clients in employment discrimination litigation, ADA/FMLA compliance, drug and alcohol issues in the workplace, and health and safety.
She is certified as a specialist in the practice of workers' compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association workers' compensation law section.

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young attorney Ashley E. Shapiro served as a panelist at the Philadelphia chapter of the Women's White Collar Defense Association special Earth Week-themed panel discussion and networking event.
The panel discussed environmental criminal enforcement and corporate monitorships.
Shapiro focused on lessons learned from Stradley Ronon's representation of a former U-Haul employee in a Department of Transportation/Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration investigation regarding a deadly explosion in Philadelphia.
Shapiro concentrates her litigation practice on the areas of white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and corporate compliance matters.
She represents clients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania state and federal criminal proceedings, including the representation of a variety of clients in connection with grand jury subpoenas and regulatory matters.

He partners with his clients, designing customized estate plans for individuals and business owners as well as navigating tax matters.
He also assists individuals and businesses in sophisticated tax matters including personal income tax, business tax, gift and estate tax, and negotiating liabilities with the IRS and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.
Nanovic volunteers and serves as a regional coordinator with the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Wills for Heroes program that provides basic estate planning documents for first responders and veterans.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
