Lou Fryman retired May 31 after 57 years of practice, teaching and community leadership.
He began his practice with his brother-in-law, Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, at the firm of Becker, Becker, and Fryman for 20 years.
Fryman then joined Fox Rothschild, where he practiced for 26 years.
He joined as chief of litigation, was managing partner, and eventually became chairman of the firm.
He then joined Conrad O'Brien, where he practiced for the past 11 years.
During his career, he was president of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, regent of the American College of Trial Lawyers, fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, president of the Lawyers Club, president of the Brandeis Society, and chair of the State Ethics Commission.
He was also involved with a number of other community organizations and leadership positions.

Steve Poulathas, chair of Flaster/Greenberg's corporate department, is set to join speakers from Everingham & Kerr, Friedman LLP and CyZen for a business owner forum, sponsored by UBS Financial Services.
Topics are to include liquidity strategies for businesses, tax and asset protection strategies for business owners, and advanced planning before a strategic exist.
The panel is scheduled to be held 8 to 10 a.m. June 27 and will include a complimentary breakfast.

Temple University Beasley School of Law presented Stephen A. Sheller, founder of Sheller P.C., with a Doctor of Humane Letters for his career built “on the ideals of justice and fairness.”
The Sheller Family Foundation supports the Philadelphia region's education, health care, justice and philanthropy including founding the Sheller Center for Social Justice supporting Temple law student social justice work for local communities.

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott to announce that nine attorneys have been promoted to member.
The newly elected members include five Pennsylvania lawyers: Julia A. Charnyshova, Derek Illar and Gosia Kosturek in Pittsburgh; Casey A. Coyle in Harrisburg; and Mark T. Vogelbacker in Philadelphia.
Charnyshova focuses her practice on corporate transactions within the hospitality industry.
Much of her practice is devoted to representing large institutional hotel investors as well as individual developers in connection with the ownership and operation of hospitality assets.
Coyle is a litigator who concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation.
His representative matters include cases involving theft of trade secrets, noncompetition/nonsolicitation agreements, shareholder litigation, emergency injunctions, class actions, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duties.
Illar has experience representing clients in court proceedings and before administrative agencies.
He counsels clients to ensure their compliance with federal, state and local laws and advises them on the implementation of best practices.
Kosturek focuses her practice on corporate transactions within the hospitality industry.
Her practice is devoted to representing real estate development companies, investors, lenders and hotel management companies in all aspects of acquisition, disposition, development, management, licensing and finance of real estate and hotel assets in the United States and throughout the world.
Vogelbacker focuses his practice on patent procurement and enforcement matters.
His litigation experience includes patent, trademark and copyright disputes covering a range of technologies and industries, including automobiles, medical devices, optical measurement devices and apparel.
Prior to practicing law, Vogelbacker was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and a fluid systems engineer at General Dynamics.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
