Barley Snyder announced that attorney Lindsey M. Cook was named to the board of directors of the Coalition for Smart Growth, a nonprofit organization promoting responsible development in Lancaster County.
The all-volunteer group works to seek common ground between mixed-use, higher-density development and the preservation of agriculture and natural areas and promotes livable, walkable communities.
Cook, a Lancaster County native, is a member of the Barley Snyder litigation practice group. In addition to her new position with the coalition, she is also a member of the advisory group of the Lancaster Chamber Young Professionals Network and serves on the United Way of Lancaster County's campaign committee.

Katherine E. Bavoso of Thomas, Thomas & Hafer in Harrisburg was named chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's workers' compensation section.
The workers' compensation section acts with the Bureau of Workers' Compensation to ensure that the interests of claimants, employers and the legal community are safeguarded in the regulatory, legislative and administrative processes.

The Pennsylvania Bar Association alternative dispute resolution committee was set to present its Sir Francis Bacon Alternative Dispute Resolution Award to Harrie R. Samaras, with the ADR Office of Harrie R. Samaras in West Chester at the association's annual meeting in Lancaster.
The award recognizes an individual who has made an impact in bringing mediation and other forms of dispute resolution to Pennsylvania.
A Harvard-trained mediator who received certification from the International Mediation Institute, Samaras' dispute resolution practice focuses on the arbitration and mediation of domestic and international commercial disputes, including intellectual property, business/technology and related issues.
A speaker and lecturer, Samaras presents and moderates continuing legal education programs on a variety of alternative dispute resolution and litigation topics for professional associations around the country.
Samaras authored and edited “ADR Advocacy, Strategies, and Practices for Intellectual Property and Technology Cases, Second Edition,” published by the ABA section of intellectual property law, as well as numerous articles on alternative dispute resolution and litigation topics.
Prior to focusing solely on alternative dispute resolution, Samaras worked as an attorney in the corporate and private sectors, for the U.S. government as a staff attorney and law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the biomedical arts.
She served as director of intellectual property litigation for a former Fortune 100 telecommunications company and as vice president of intellectual property, legal for a business unit of a multinational pharmaceutical/drug delivery company.
Samaras held leadership roles in numerous organizations, including chair, vice chair and budget officer of the ABA dispute resolution section.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
