Hyland Levin Shapiro announced that senior associate Megan Knowlton Balne is the 2019 recipient of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Professional Achievement Award.
The award honors a young lawyer who achieved significant professional accomplishments during the past year.
Balne is a member of the Burlington County, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania bar associations.
She received her law degree from Rutgers University Law School in Camden, New Jersey.

Archer partner Carlton L. Johnson was honored by the Barristers' Association of Philadelphia as the 2019 J. Austin Norris Awardee.
The association presents the J. Austin Norris Award to an attorney of color in recognition of J. Austin Norris' focus on improving the position of African Americans in the Philadelphia legal community.
Johnson received the award in recognition of his service to the Barristers' Association, the legal profession and the community at large.
Johnson is a member of the Barristers' president's advisory board.
JoAnne A. Epps, executive vice president and provost of Temple University, presented Johnson with the award.
The mission of the Barristers' Association of Philadelphia is to address the professional needs and development of black lawyers in the City of Philadelphia through programs such as seminars, cultural events and publications.
Johnson's practice is dedicated to commercial and complex litigation matters.
He represents clients in a variety of matters, including civil rights, labor and employment, real estate, government affairs, insurance matters, criminal matters, business torts, contractual disputes, professional negligence actions and personal injury and property loss matters.
Much of Johnson's practice is focused on minority- and women-owned businesses. Along with litigation matters, Johnson provides general business counseling and assistance to minority- and women-owned companies.
Johnson is an active member of Archer's diversity committee.
He is adviser and mentor to the Black Law Student Association of Temple University Beasley School of Law and serves on the advisory boards of Temple University Center for Inclusive Competitiveness and Million Women Mentors.
Johnson is a member of the Minority Bar Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association as well as the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, African American Chamber of Commerce, Black Alumni Association of Pennsylvania State University and Women in Tech Philadelphia chapter.

Capehart Scatchard announced that Jessica L. Rodio was inducted as a trustee of the Atlantic County Bar Association.
Rodio received her law degree from Rutgers University Law School in Camden, New Jersey.
Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to New Jersey Superior Court Judge Nelson C. Johnson.
She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Zanan is a member of the Pennsylvania and Montgomery bar associations and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, and he served on the executive board of the Montgomery American Inn of Court.
Zanan focuses his practice on personal injury litigation involving motor vehicle crashes, premises liability and other complex legal matters.
In addition to his law degree, he has a Master of Science in Forensic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
