The large firm management committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association hosted its annual Summer Associates Reception.
Attendants at the reception included Connie Lee, associate at Pepper Hamilton and recipient of the LFMC Public Service Award; Vince McGuinness, managing partner at Cozen O'Connor and co-chair of the LFMC; Shelli Fedullo, chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association; Shonterra Jordan, associate at Ballard Spahr and recipient of the LFMC Public Service Award; keynote speaker U.S. District Chief Judge Juan R. Sanchez of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and Ben Barnett, partner at Dechert and co-chair of the LFMC.

The Public Interest Law Center is set to present a panel CLE program on gun safety from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at Magna Legal Services.
The panel will talk about the impact of gun violence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania gun laws and the challenges in trying to address gun violence in Pennsylvania.
Panelists are set to include Raynard Washington, chief epidemiologist for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and attorneys from the Public Interest Law Center.
One substantive CLE credit will be available for Pennsylvania attorneys.
Tickets are $75, and tickets for public interest attorneys, law clerks and non-lawyers are $25. A reception with the panelists will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Capehart Scatchard hosted a panel discussion and breakfast at its Mount Laurel office for first-year law students from Rutgers Law School in Camden, New Jersey.
The students are part of the Rutgers Minority Student Program.
Capehart Scatchard attorneys Sanmathi Dev, Mary Ellen Rose and Lauren Tedesco and summer law clerks Courtney Crosby, Jeong Park and Edward Wiest served as panelists participating in a discussion on law careers in private practice.
The panelists shared insights about various practice areas, clerkships and law school.
The event was hosted by Capehart Scatchard's diversity and inclusion committee, which Dev leads.

Managing partner John G. Audi of Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams is set to be a featured presenter at the 2019 School Board Secretaries Conference at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions.
This annual conference is designed to provide the latest policy and legal updates, extend networking opportunities and help attendees refresh skills in preparation for the back-to-school season.
Audi will present as part of the session “School Board Secretaries: Lessons Learned & Panel Discussion.”
Joining him will be Beth Zeigler, 2019 school board secretaries committee chair, and Heather Masshardt, Pennsylvania School Boards Association governance services.
Audi brings over 30 years of experience in public sector labor and employment law.
He served for nine years as in-house regional counsel for the Pennsylvania State Education Association and for 11 years as an administrative law judge for the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.
Audi now focuses his work on education labor law, public sector law, legal consultation and staff training.
He is a frequent lecturer on labor, employment and education legal matters.
The 2019 School Board Secretaries Conference is presented by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, a nonprofit statewide association of public school boards.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
