- On Aug. 21, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present a CLE program, “Equity and Adequacy: Funding and Equal Access,” from noon–3 p.m. (registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m.), at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. This program will provide an overview of the state funding system for Pennsylvania’s public schools, and the legal framework and equity issues presented in funding statewide—as well as within—the charter sector in Philadelphia. - On Sept. 10, the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division will host the fundraiser, “Keep Calm and Play Ping Pong,” from 6–9 p.m., at SPIN Philadelphia, 211 S 15th St., Philadelphia. - On Sept. 16, the Philadelphia Bar Association will hold the chancellor’s forum “When They See Us: The Case of the Central Park Five,” from 4–6 pm., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. The Central Park Five case became a lightning rod over its 25-year saga and has since caused people to re-evaluate how the legal system treats juveniles, poor people and racial minorities. A panel of experts will dissect the racial, societal and legal issues related to every step of the criminal process and what went wrong in this case. Following the panel, there will be an in-depth discussion of the role that Philadelphia lawyers should play in ensuring that justice is not just blind but color blind. Visit www.philadelphiabar.org.
- On Sept. 23, Support Center for Child Advocates will host its 14th annual Child Advocates Golf Classic at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, 6025 West Valley Green Road, Flourtown. All proceeds from the golf classic support the special project, “Children with Complex Medical Needs,” a critical initiative led by a staff attorney and social worker who team with specially trained volunteer lawyers to secure necessary medical treatment, special education, rehabilitation services and permanent nurturing homes for young clients who have serious or chronic medical needs. - On Sept. 25, the Education Law Center (ELC) will hold its 2019 Fall Celebration: Fighting the Good Fight, at 5:30 p.m., at the Crystal Tea Room, 100 Penn Square West, Philadelphia. At this event, ELC will honor the 2019 champions of public education, and celebrate its work to ensure access to quality public education for all children in Pennsylvania. Michael G. Bongiorno, Andrew Scott Dulberg and Elizabeth E. Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

Amy O. Bruchs and Kurt F. Ellison of Michael Best & Friedrich have entered appearances for Epic Systems Corp. in a pending employment discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
