Zachary M. Rubinich, a partner in Rawle & Henderson’s Philadelphia office, was selected as a faculty member for the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s workers’ compensation fall section meeting 2019.
The fall section meeting is scheduled to be held Sept. 26 and 27 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey.
Rubinich is slated to speak on a panel on “Handling a Concussion Case.”
He will provide tips, tactics and strategy from a defense attorney perspective on the handling, evaluation, litigation and settlement of a work injury concussion case.
Rubinich focuses his practice on the defense of insurance carriers, self-insured entities and third-party administrators against workers’ compensation claims in Pennsylvania.
The PBA workers’ compensation law section certified him as a specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law.
Rubinich handles all aspects of litigation before workers’ compensation judges, the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, the Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
He routinely counsels employers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators on claims management, workplace safety, return-to-work programs, employment practices and risk management.
Rubinich was appointed to several American Bar Association tort trial and insurance practice leadership positions, including vice chair of the litigation and trial practice committee; vice chair of the appellate advocacy committee; member of the ethics and professionalism standing committee; and member of the CLE board committee.
These appointments will become effective in September 2019.
He is currently chair of the American Bar Association’s tort trial and insurance practice workers’ compensation and employers’ liability law committee for 2018-2019.

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partner Michael J. Engle was sworn in as a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers at the association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia on Aug. 3.
NACDL’s aims to advance the mission of the criminal defense bar to ensure justice and due process for persons accused of crime or wrongdoing.
Engle, the chair of the firm’s white-collar defense group, has more than 18 years of experience in federal criminal cases, complex white-collar defense matters, and internal or parallel investigations on behalf of corporations and other entities.
He represents white-collar defendants in complex, high-stakes federal and state prosecutions and guides corporations and other organizations through the intricacies of government investigations.
Engle has defended individuals and businesses in connection with grand jury subpoenas and in numerous jury trials.
In recent years, Engle developed a practice of defending against civil and/or criminal allegations relating to hazing conduct.

Blank Rome announced that Anthony B. Haller, partner and member of the firm’s executive committee, was elected as a master of the bench of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in London.
A master of the bench of an Inn of Court in England and Wales is a lifetime office in recognition of the contribution that a barrister makes to the life of the Inn or to the law.
Haller was elected in light of his contributions to the American inns of court movement and his role in fostering a connection between the American and English inns of court, including the establishment of a national advocacy program in conjunction with the English Inns of Court College of Advocacy.
Haller serves as a trustee and executive committee member of the American Inns of Court Foundation and is a past president and current member of the executive committee of the Temple American Inn of Court in Philadelphia.
Gray’s Inn exists to support, educate and develop its student barrister members and to provide professional development to its barrister members in accordance with its traditions.
At Blank Rome, Haller concentrates his practice on all aspects of labor and employment law, including preventative counseling, complex litigation, trial and appellate work.
He previously served as chair of the firm’s labor and employment group from 2008 to 2013 and currently leads the trade secret and unfair competition practice.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
