Elected and Appointed
Blank Rome announced that Jayme L. Butcher and Ronald W. Frank, partners in the firm's Pittsburgh office, took leadership roles as chairs of committees and sections of the Pennsylvania Bar Association for the 2019-2020 term.
Butcher was named co-chair of the PBA large law firm committee.
At Blank Rome, Butcher built her practice helping clients in a variety of litigation matters.
She serves on the board of directors for the Sarah Heinz House and board of trustees for the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is also a member of the executive leadership council for the United Way of Allegheny County as well as the National United Way Women's leadership council.
Frank was named chair of the PBA international and comparative law section. At Blank Rome, Frank concentrates his corporate practice on managing large financial projects for his clients.
He is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and sits on the board of directors of the University of Pittsburgh's Center for International Legal Education.
He is also a member of Carnegie Mellon's advisory council of the College of Engineering and Science and serves as president of the Carnegie Mellon Law Advisory Network.

Barley Snyder announced that longtime York County attorney David R. Confer joined the firm in its downtown York office.
Confer served as general counsel to York County-based Wolf Organization, helping direct the home products supplies company for more than 40 years. His tenure includes a time as chairman of the board of directors. He will keep the general counsel position as a Barley Snyder attorney.
Confer joins as a member of the Barley Snyder business practice group.
During his time at the Penn State Dickinson Law, Confer clerked at Liverant, Senft and Cohen, which merged into Barley Snyder in 1991.
Since then, in addition to his professional work, Confer has been active in York's nonprofit community.
He serves on boards of organizations including York Habitat for Humanity and Children's Home of York, and he served as the chair of the board of directors at the United Way of York County.

Daniel E. Cummins of Foley, Comerford, & Cummins published an article in The Pennsylvania Bar Association Quarterly titled "'Hurricane Koken' Rages On: Uncertainty Continues in Motor Vehicle Accident Litigation in the Stormy Post-Koken Era."
Cummins focuses his practice on the defense of auto accident, premises liability, construction and products liability cases.
He also serves as a mediator for these types of cases through Cummins Mediation Services. Cummins also serves as an expert witness in legal malpractice cases.
Cummins is the sole creator and writer of the Tort Talk blog.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
