Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr attorneys, friends and family members participated in the 6th annual Breakthrough Bike Challenge.
This event, which the firm co-sponsored since its creation, raises funds to support cancer research at Penn Medicine. Saul Ewing raised more than $10,000 in donations this year and placed fourth out of all teams entered.
Elected and Appointed
Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partner Christopher C. Scarpa was elected as chair of the CLE committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association's tax law section.
The tax section act as a resource for collecting and disseminating information, and offering recommendations on proposed tax law, regulations and procedures.
Scarpa focuses his practice on the taxation of pooled investment vehicles, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, hedge funds, real estate mortgage investment conduits and other investment-related vehicles.
He advises investment companies on compliance with the requirements under Subchapter M of the Internal Revenue Code.
Speakers
Grace M. Deon of Eastburn and Gray served as a panelist at the 2019 Bucks County Bar Association Bench Bar Conference, where she discussed employment law issues in the #MeToo era.
The seminar took place at the Seaview Hotel in Galloway, New Jersey.
Included in the discussion were applicable federal and state laws governing sexual harassment in the workplace, recommended employer policies and training, best practices for internal investigations of sexual harassment complaints, claims against high profile/executive level employees, how to address office romances, and ethical and public relations implications specific to sexual harassment.
Additional panelists include Tiffanie Benfer, Chief Magistrate Judge Linda K. Caracappa of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Deon is a shareholder and member of Eastburn and Gray's management committee.
Her practice focuses on employment, commercial and special education litigation. She previously served as the president of the Bucks County Bar Association.

Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano female executives Jackie Donovan, Jennifer Heinz and Corinne Bolanos are set to participate at the upcoming B.PHL Innovation Fest, presenting a session titled "C-suite squad goals: How millennial women are innovating workplace culture with a personality test."
The session is scheduled for Thursday at the Community College of Philadelphia.

The festival features three days of workshops, sessions, exhibits and events highlighting innovation in business, education, health care, science, technology and the arts.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Attorneys from A&O Shearman has stepped in as defense counsel for Toronto-Dominion Bank and other defendants in a pending securities class action. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. Crown Castle International, a Pennsylvania company providing shared communications infrastructure, has turned to Luke D. Wolf of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani to fend off a pending breach-of-contract lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement.
