Announcements

Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads announced that associate Joshua Runyan won first place in the LL.M. division of the 19th annual Law Student Tax Challenge of the American Bar Association.

The competition was held in Boca Raton, Florida.

Runyan and a Temple University Beasley School of Law teammate detailed a series of complex issues in the fields of partnership tax, corporate tax, international tax and tax procedure.

An alternative to traditional moot court competitions, the Law Student Tax Challenge asks two-person teams of students to solve a business problem that might arise in everyday tax practice.

Teams are initially evaluated on a memorandum to a senior partner and a letter to a client explaining the result.

Ten teams are selected to move forward to the Section of Taxation 2020 Midyear Tax Meeting to defend their submissions before a panel of judges representing the country's top tax practitioners and government officials, including Tax Court judges.

Runyan is an associate in Montgomery McCracken's tax practice group.

He concentrates his practice in federal and state tax matters and estate planning.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Runyan was a judicial intern for Judge Anne E. Lazarus of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.

Runyan received his Juris Doctor from the Temple University Beasley School of Law.
