G. Jeffrey Boujoukos, director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Philadelphia regional office, is leaving the office at the end of this month to rejoin Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as a partner.
Boujoukos will split his time between the firm's Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., offices. In his most recent role at the SEC, where he worked for more than a decade, he supervised examination and enforcement programs in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and D.C.
The SEC just announced Wednesday that Boujoukos would be leaving the commission. SEC Chairman Jay Clayton thanked him for his counsel in a statement Wednesday.
"Jeff has led by example in fighting fraud and educating our Main Street investors," Clayton said. "His dedication to our mission and to the Philadelphia regional office will have a lasting impact in Philadelphia and beyond."
The commission noted a number of cases brought by the Philadelphia office under his leadership, including charges against a Pennsylvania investment adviser who allegedly raised over $105 million and did not invest it as promised; and charges against BP for misleading investors about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which led to a $525 million penalty.
As a law firm partner, Boujoukos will go back into securities enforcement defense, internal investigations and financial services litigation work. He was also a partner at Morgan Lewis before joining the SEC.
He is the second former federal government official to rejoin Morgan Lewis this year, following Matthew Miner, who served as a deputy assistant attorney general, criminal division, at the U.S. Department of Justice.
J. Gordon Cooney Jr., who leads the global litigation practice at Morgan Lewis, said in a statement that the firm is "focused on bolstering our SEC enforcement capabilities."
"Combining his outstanding government experience and previous career at Morgan Lewis, Jeff is able to hit the ground running and work seamlessly with other partners in our securities, white-collar defense, and investment management practices to the benefit of our clients," Cooney added.
Regarding his return to the firm, Boujoukos said in an emailed statement that he is looking forward to the next chapter of his legal career there. "Morgan Lewis is one of those unique, full-service firms with top-notch lawyers consistently across practices, industries and jurisdictions who value deep client and colleague relationships," he said.
