Attorney Michael T. van der Veen, founding partner at van der Veen, O' Neill, Hartshorn, and Levin, was a guest on Jeff Stein's VoiceAmerica.com podcast, "Is there Really Truth and Justice for All?"
Stein and van der Veen discussed some current issues with the criminal justice system in Philadelphia and throughout the country as well as their personal experiences with these issues.
Van der Veen handles both civil litigation and criminal defense.
He also represents companies in cases related to government regulation and corporate litigation.
Van der Veen is active in several organizations in the legal field and in his community.
He serves on the board of directors of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and on the board of governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
He is past chairman of the board of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Diabetes Association and also served on the boards of the YMCA and the Montgomery School.
In addition to his leadership positions, van der Veen is also a member of the American Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
He earned his Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac School of Law in 1988 and his LL.M. in trial advocacy from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1995.
He is admitted to practice in Illinois as well as Pennsylvania.

Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti partner Pamela Coyle Brecht is slated to present "The False Claims Act Update" at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute A Day in Health Law program Oct. 28 in Philadelphia.
A Day on Health Law is a one-day, six-hour spinoff of the PBI annual Health Law Institute. Brecht serves as chair of Pietragallo Gordon's national qui tam/False Claims Act practice group.
She also has experience in white-collar criminal litigation, employment law, internal investigations and complex health care litigation.
She litigates complex False Claims Act cases.
Cases she handled include alleged fraud by a large multistate Medicaid managed care contractor, FCA violations by three of the largest hospital corporations in the country, and dissecting complex financial relationships among health care providers including stark and anti-kickback issues.
She has also litigates cases involving hospital fraud, emergency room fraud, medical device allegations, Medicare Part C and Part D fraud, government contractor fraud, laboratory fraud, and all types of pharmaceutical fraud.
Brecht graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1991.
Brecht is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, the Federal Bar Association qui tam section, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the federal criminal law committee for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Brehon Law Society, and the Justinian Law Society.
She also serves on the executive board for the Federal Bar Association's qui tam section. Brecht frequently speaks, writes,and lectures nationally on False Claims Act and health care fraud issues.
She served as an adjunct professor of law at Hamline University School of Law in Minnesota, where she taught a course in health care fraud.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer have entered their appearances for Hanaco Venture Capital and its executives, Lior Prosor and David Frankel, in a pending securities lawsuit. The action, filed on Dec. 24 in New York Southern District Court by Zell, Aron & Co. on behalf of Goldeneye Advisors, accuses the defendants of negligently and fraudulently managing the plaintiff's $1 million investment. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement.
