Partner James A. Funt of Greenblatt, Pierce, Funt & Flores, was a featured guest on "Flashpoint," a weekly show produced by KYW Newsradio where area business and community leaders share their perspective on how local and national news issues affect Philadelphians.
The program discussed the impact of the mandatory masking order for Pennsylvania that went into effect April 19.
Funt discussed if, while employees and customers of businesses are now required to wear facial coverings to curb the spread of coronavirus, those same facial coverings could have a negative impact on behavior.
Funt, a civil rights attorney, was joined by psychotherapist Amy Morin and Philadelphia City Council member Isaiah Thomas.
Funt also spoke about the legality of enforcing such laws.
Funt focuses his career on helping those who have been the victim of discrimination.
His work includes blue-collar and white-collar criminal defense, civil rights issues and plaintiff employment discrimination matters.
Funt was the 2015 co-chair of the criminal justice section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and continues to serve on its executive committee.
He also served on the Philadelphia Bar Association board of governors and serves on the association's commission of judicial selection and retention.
Funt is also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Philadelphia chapter, the Philadelphia Inn of Criminal Court, the Defender Association of Philadelphia Alumni Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, and the Camden County, New Jersey, Bar Association.
He tries criminal cases before judges and juries in state and federal courts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania ranging from complex homicides to kidnappings, aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, state and federal drug cases, and white-collar crimes including sexual cybercrimes.
His practice includes adult and juvenile matters.
His clients have included police officers, fire fighters, attorneys, doctors, sports figures as well other professionals.
Funt also tries civil rights cases alleging claims of excessive force and wrongful arrest and represents clients in first amendment issues and employment discrimination cases such as age, race, gender, whistleblowing and sexual orientation claims.
Funt earned his Juris Doctor from the Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
