Elected and Appointed
Barley Snyder announced that attorney Kalani Linnell was selected to join a group of 50 Title IX and education law attorneys from across the country to develop joint guidance on the final Title IX regulations recently released.
The group will craft guidance to efficiently assist schools and colleges with the task of analyzing and complying with the changes.
The free guidance is intended to be available online to all schools.
Title IX, signed into law in 1972, protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
The new 2,000-page final rule replaces decades of nonbinding interpretations and creates new and different requirements, as the recent updates were the first to Title IX's regulations since 1975.
The project is being coordinated and hosted by the Student Conduct Institute, a project of the State University of New York that provides Title IX training and resources to professionals from over 175 member institutions of postsecondary education.
Linnell was invited to contribute to the joint guidance based on her experience with the challenges that K-12 schools face when attempting to comply with a law that was designed for the postsecondary educational setting.
Linnell, who represents K-12 and postsecondary schools, is an associate at Barley Snyder and a member of the firm's education practice group.
She has handles issues relating to sexual harassment, student expression, school safety and security, trauma-informed practices, data security and medical marijuana and cannabis.
Linnell is a graduate of the Drexel University Kline School of Law.
