I am a lawyer who does a fair amount of domestic work and civil litigation. I am finding I dislike it due to the rudeness and lack of courtesy of opposing lawyers. Am I being too thin-skinned?

Samuel C. Stretton. Samuel C. Stretton.

The answer unfortunately is no. In recent years, there seems to be a rise of lack of courtesy and essential rudeness by one’s opponent, particularly in domestic-related cases and in civil litigation. Again, there are many lawyers in all areas who are very professional, very courteous, and do a wonderful job. But there unfortunately are lawyers, both young and old, who don’t see collegiality as having any value, and really are very uncivil.
