Pennsylvania's top law firms generally displayed steady growth in 2019, which prepared them to brace for the economic challenges of 2020. For several firms, significant mergers also played a role in their 2020 fate.
Since the onset of the pandemic in March, many firms have reported a speedy recovery of their finances, at least for now. Industry leaders said this was in large part due to strong performance in 2019 that allowed firms to offer flexible fee structures and handle the reality of certain industry groups struggling more than others. The ability to brace for economic disruption was generally skewed toward larger and well-capitalized firms.
