U.S. Attorney David Freed of the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced his resignation. The announcement marks the first federal law enforcement head to do so from Pennsylvania as President Donald Trump’s presidency begins to wind down.

Freed, who was appointed by Trump in September 2017, announced late Monday that he plans to step down from his position starting Jan. 1. In a statement announcing his resignation from the position he said he was grateful to Trump, as well as Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, and for the privilege of serving in the role.
