At elite U.K. firm Slaughter and May there is said to be a back entrance that clients can quietly use if they want to avoid any chance of being noticed. “That door meant something confidential was going on and we were cautious with how and where people were seen”, says one former lawyer.
Issues of confidentiality are nothing new to lawyers, but the way they are dealt with has started to change. In the new era of remote working, that ‘quiet door’ is now provided via a video call meeting ID and passcode.
