A Monroe County judge has rejected a former firefighter’s request to have him reinstated to the department along with attorney fees based on claims that he was dismissed from his position based on racial prejudice.

Judge Arthur Zulick also rejected plaintiff Jamal Bayton’s claim that he was not made chief of defendant Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Co. because he is Black. The fire company claimed Bayton was not made chief because of a lack of experience and was fired because of disciplinary problems.
