Pennsylvania voters have backed two proposed constitutional amendments aimed at curbing a governor’s power to declare emergencies.

Pennsylvnians on May 18 voted in favor of an amendment allowing the General Assembly to end an emergency order with a simple majority vote, and another amendment making it so a governor’s emergency order will expire after 21 days. Both measures passed by nearly 53% in favor to more than 47% opposed, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s website.
