Finding that Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Lyris Younge engaged in “blatant and inexcusable” misconduct by violating families’ rights—including unlawfully jailing some—during her time on the Family Court bench, a divided Court of Judicial Discipline has suspended her for a period of six months without pay.

In a June 2 majority opinion, CJD President Judge Jazelle Jones ordered that in addition to the suspension without pay to commence July 26, Younge must undergo a probationary period until the end of her term in 2026. Jones also ordered that Younge be banned from further service in the family court during her probation and is required to deliver a letter of apology to each individual she wronged.
