A measure that would randomize the order in which candidates for public office appear on ballots—and thus reduce the advantage enjoyed by those listed first—has been assigned to a committee for vetting.

State Rep. Christopher Rabb, D-Philadelphia, said in a memo seeking co-sponsors that House Bill 1797 was inspired in part by a ritual in Philadelphia politics where ballot positions are drawn by lot from a coffee can.
