Former Cumberland County Judge Thomas Placey’s out-of-control temper in the courtroom has led the Court of Judicial Discipline to conclude that he violated judicial rules concerning demeanor.

In a 16-page opinion authored by CJD Judge Ronald Marsico, the disciplinary court said Placey violated judicial canons that require judges to be “patient, dignified and courteous” to those in the courtroom. Placey was charged by the Judicial Conduct Board in June 2020.
