Having a sense of the older terms and a sense of the history of the profession of law is important.

I am a young lawyer and at times I hear terminology from older members and I don't know what it means. Has the law changed that much?

The practice of law has evolved quite a bit in the last 50 years. Old terminology does not often exist anymore. For instance, this writer was trying a case recently when the issue came up about whether or not a lawyer kept up on the law by reading advance sheets. A younger lawyer who was on the panel asked what advance sheets were.
