The George Mason University College of Humanities and Social Sciences has named Barley Snyder partner David Freedman one of the "Community & Catalysts Award" recipients for 2021.
The award is given to a graduate of the Fairfax, Virginia, school whose leadership, research and service have made outstanding contributions to their fields, their communities, and to George Mason University.
Freedman dedicated long hours in 2021 to spearheading a statewide effort to push courts to adjudicate U visa cases that have been backlogged for years. The project caught the eye of the White House, as the current administration made it a priority in June to begin processing the cases more quickly.

The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls.
