George Bochetto, a Philadelphia-based lawyer who recently made headlines for his lawsuit challenging the city’s efforts to take down a statue of Christopher Columbus, said he is in talks to potentially launch a bid as a Republican for the U.S. Senate seat that is set to be vacated by Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania, at the end of next year.

Bochetto, a longtime civil litigator with the firm Bochetto & Lentz, said he saw an opening to enter the political fray recently when Sean Parnell, a Republican endorsed by former President Donald Trump, last month suspended his campaign for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat. Bochetto said he plans to make a firm decision about whether to enter the race before the end of the year, with an official announcement likely coming in early January.
