Pond Lehocky Giordano—one of Philadelphia’s most visible workers’ compensation law firms—is facing its own employment-related dispute, involving a former lawyer who sued the firm Tuesday alleging gender-based discrimination and thousands of dollars in unpaid referral credit fees.

Attorney Maureen “Morty” Cassidy said in a March 22 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania that Pond Lehocky failed to pay her more than $10,000 in referral credit fees after she was laid off in May 2020. Cassidy’s complaint describes a work environment at Pond Lehocky that was disadvantageous to women-lawyers during her tenure at the firm from 2015 to 2020, while providing ample opportunities for career advancement and higher pay to male lawyers.
