Pennsylvania courts saw a big spike in security incidents last year, topping off a trend of rising threats and violence that has more than doubled since 2012.

According to interviews with court watchers, staff and law enforcement, the growth could be part of rising tensions across the country and difficulty hiring sufficient security staff, as well as redoubled efforts by court administration to improve the local reporting practices when threats and disturbances arise.
