The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has instituted a new rule regarding arbitration appeal awards to address an apparent bias toward the defense that existed in the rule’s previous iteration.

The court’s Thursday order amends Rule of Civil Procedure 1311.1 to change the maximum limit of what a plaintiff may elect as the value of damages they can recover in a trial appealing an arbitration award. The order is set to go into effect July 1.
