The War on Ukraine—What It Means for LGBTQ+ Ukrainians
Most LGBTQ+ Ukrainians are hopeful that there will be a peaceful resolution to the conflict but in the meantime, there is a quiet determination and resoluteness among many LGBTQ+ Ukrainians who are both willing to defend and protect their nation as well as stand up for their right to exist authentically in society at large.

It has been over three months since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and there is no end in sight. The war in Ukraine has triggered Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II with more than six million people having fled Ukraine already and data shows that eight million people are displaced within the country itself.
War, regardless of the reasons for it or its outcome, destroys communities and families and disrupts the development of the social and economic norms while causing long-term physical and psychological harm to children and adults. War poses the biggest threat to society's most vulnerable and persecuted communities; and the LGBTQ+ community in Ukraine is no exception.
