Di Massa joined the firm as a first-year associate in 1981 and from 2001-2018 served as chair of the firm’s business reorganization and financial restructuring practice group. Among many significant matters he has handled in his career was his representation of approximately 100 Italian citizens who owned $51 million in face value of bonds issued in 1993 and 1994 by the Republic of Argentina. In the early 2000s, the Republic defaulted on its payment obligations under these bonds, and the clients obtained judgments in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Efforts to execute on these judgments were made throughout various parts of the world and, in 2016, he succeeded in negotiating a final settlement with Argentina. The settlement resulted in payments by the Republic totaling about 210% of face value.

The case was highlighted by The Philadelphia Inquirer and, in part due to this accomplishment, Di Massa was bestowed the honor of knighthood by Italy during a ceremony at the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia in 2017.
