Data released this month shows that large law firms originating in Pennsylvania lost ground in the acquisition of legal talent, as their head count growth was outpaced by peer firms rooted in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The NLJ 500, which ranks firms based on the previous year’s lawyer head count, offers a comparative view into the pace of growth of the country’s largest law firms. Although Pennsylvania-born firms at the top of the list, like Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and K&L Gates, remain steady in their rankings from year to year, those firms further down are seeing their rankings shift with more frequency.
