When the COVID-19 pandemic hit nearly three years ago, the Philadelphia Bar Association, like many other organizations, had to pause and pivot in-person events to being all virtual. This September, the association is headed back to the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for the first time since 2019 for a fully in-person Bench-Bar and Annual Conference, a two-day event (Sept. 16 and 17) that has always included a robust agenda of CLEs and networking and socializing opportunities.

While there will be a virtual CLE component available, it was important to us to give our community an opportunity that is becoming rarer than it used to be: To be able to interact face to face, and perhaps most importantly, to learn collaboratively together in the same room. There is no doubt that virtual events are here to stay because they come with a lot of benefits, including time efficiency and convenience. They are also often more cost effective to put on and ticket prices tend to be cheaper. But they are no replacement for the opportunity to get some physical and mental distance from our everyday routines and focus on building relationships and gaining knowledge that enhances our practice.
