With the nation’s top securities regulator expected to announce expanded climate-related disclosure requirements by the end of 2022, compliance with incoming reporting requirements is on the minds of many local attorneys representing public companies and registered funds.

Erin Martin, a former legal branch chief for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission who joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius last year, called the commission’s proposed climate disclosures for public companies “the most hotly debated disclosure initiative to come out of the SEC since executive compensation back in the early 2000s,” pointing to hundreds of thousands of public comments that have been garnered in response to the SEC’s rulemaking from earlier this year.
