A New York attorney received reciprocal disbarment from the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Thursday after a disciplinary investigation revealed she had borrowed over $200,000 from a client to save her bookstore from foreclosure under the guise that “the Lord had chosen” the client to save it.

The Supreme Court of New York disbarred former attorney Harriet A. Gilliam in March 2020 after the Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District brought forward evidence about her improperly entering into a business transaction with a client.
