I am reaching the age where I am going to retire as an attorney. Is there any good reason to keep my law license active?

The answer is very straightforward and simple. Never ever let your law license go inactive. Any reason for letting it go inactive pales in terms of problems you could face down the line or loss of income. Further, if one worked all of those years to become a licensed attorney and practiced for many, many years, the active law license is like a badge of honor. There is no reason to allow it to go inactive other than disabling injuries or illnesses.
