Gaming companies Pace-O-Matic and Primero Games say their video-operated devices are “skill games,” but a new lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania claims that they are dangerous gambling devices that spread crime and led to the shooting death of a store clerk in December 2020.

A lawsuit filed Wednesday advances novel negligence and products liability claims against several electronic gaming device makers—including POM and Primero Games—over the shooting death of Ashokkumar Patel, who was killed when a gunman allegedly targeted the mini-mart where he worked because of the large amounts of cash the store needed on hand in order to pay out on the gaming machines.
