Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was passed into law 50 years ago to prohibit sex discrimination in schools and school-related programming that receive federal funding. Its impact over the last 50 years cannot be understated, but there is still a long way to go before its promise of equality is fully realized.

The creative thinking and persistent pressure of legal advocates who made so much progress under Title IX is an inspiration as we continue to pursue gender equity with a modern understanding of intersectional discrimination and gender beyond the binary assumptions of 50 years ago.
