After an 11-year tenure that included winning court battles for same-sex marriage and voting rights, the ACLU of Pennsylvania’s executive director is returning to his home state of North Carolina to lead an anti-poverty nonprofit.

Reggie Shuford said his last day with the state-level civil liberties nonprofit will be Jan. 6, and his first day as executive director of the economic justice-focused North Carolina Justice Center will be Feb. 13. Local ACLU leaders will begin their search for a successor in the new year, during which Deputy Director Claire Landau will serve as interim executive director.
