After more than a decade leading the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, I made the difficult decision to move back home to North Carolina. It was no easy choice to leave the ACLU. Before taking the helm in Pennsylvania, I was a staff attorney and senior staff attorney at the national ACLU in New York City for over 15 years. I will always look fondly on my time at this iconic American institution.

At the same time, I am grateful for the opportunity to take on new challenges in my home state. In the coming weeks, I will become the executive director of the North Carolina Justice Center, the state’s preeminent, progressive nonprofit organization advocating for economic justice.
