We are all connected. We hear it all the time. Whether it’s Mufasa explaining the circle of life to young Simba; David Attenborough describing the genetic similarity of all members of homo sapiens; or, a tech entrepreneur extolling the benefits of a new gadget; we are regularly reminded of our interconnectedness. We even carry the message on every dollar and coin: E pluribus unum.

In 2022, I joined a firm as a lateral partner after working in-house for a veteran-focused cannabis company for three and a half years. Those years (2019-2022) coincided with the height of the global pandemic that killed over one million Americans and radically changed how we interact in nearly all aspects life. Like many, I eventually contracted and recovered from COVID, yet my in-house position as a member of a tightly knit team seemed to provide an immunity to the social isolation felt by most. It wasn’t until I returned to firm life that I realized the profound changes and challenges we face in getting everyone back together again.
