A federal judge in Pennsylvania approved a $220,000 settlement agreement last week between Kadence International and a former employee based on allegations that the market research company misclassified him and his co-workers as independent contractors and denied them overtime compensation.

In a March 23 opinion, U.S. District Judge Karen S. Marston of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania granted the motion of plaintiff Cody Brown, who brought the lawsuit on behalf of himself and other employees against Kadence International, alleging that the company misclassified them as independent contractors and failed to pay appropriate overtime compensation in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, for those working in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act. The plaintiffs’ counsel also requested attorney fees and reimbursement of expenses, which remain under advisement.
