In a matter of first impression, a Pennsylvania federal judge determined that plaintiffs were entitled to attorney fees, despite the district court originally siding with defendants and the plaintiffs' appeal being dismissed as moot.

In an April 4 opinion, U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Leeson Jr. of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania granted the plaintiffs' request for attorney fees after determining that the plaintiffs were, in fact, the prevailing party for purposes of 42 U.S.C. § 1988.
