Natural gas distributor UGI, novelty chocolate-maker R.M. Palmer Co. and other defendants were slapped with a wrongful death lawsuit on April 11 in Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas for Philadelphia County. The suit was filed by Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky on behalf of the estate of Judith Lopez-Moran, who worked at an R.M. Palmer factory. According to the complaint, Lopez-Moran was killed along with six other workers in a gas explosion at the factory. The suit alleges that the defendants failed to properly maintain and inspect a pipeline providing gas to the factory despite complaints about suspected gas leaks. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is Ruiz v. UGI Corporation.
