Overseeing Jones Day Pittsburgh’s vast pro bono program is not an easy undertaking—it includes litigation matters, federal court mediations, immigration cases, nonprofit formation, and intellectual property matters. Divelbiss regularly meets with lawyers at all levels to discuss and implement their pro bono ideas so they can engage in projects that have personal meaning. He also meets with members of the community to discuss how Jones Day can help with their needs, and he helps Jones Day’s clients develop pro bono programs within their organizations.

As pro bono partner, he sees his most important task as instilling a commitment to pro bono in the Firm’s incoming lawyers. He meets with summer associates and new lawyers every year, explaining Jones Day’s dedication to pro bono and how lawyers have a professional obligation to give back and help others. He frequently meets individually with new lawyers to discuss pro bono work, and he constantly seeks pro bono matters in which new lawyers can participate.
