Dena Calo, Saul Ewing

Calo serves as co-chair of the firm's labor and employment practice and has been instrumental in the group's growth and success throughout the firm. She has deep experience in human resources strategy and counseling, risk prevention and employment litigation, and has litigated cases in front of state and federal juries throughout the United States.

A tireless advocate for her clients, Calo is also a tremendous champion for her colleagues. She readily makes time for anyone who requests it—whether to problem solve or strategize business development opportunities—and looks for ways to help junior attorneys gain the legal acumen to move up. Dena makes it a priority in her practice to ensure the next generation of attorneys have the skills and support they need to succeed in their careers—through hands-on experience, client-facing opportunities, and an artful balance of direction, autonomy, and follow-up coaching.

She also leads by example, demonstrating the importance of relationship and network building along the way. She was instrumental in steering the growth and development of the firm's Women's Development Initiative, which works to maximize women's contributions and increase their ascension to equity partnership. Calo also spearheaded a mentoring and business development circle for women attorneys (many of whom have now ascended to partnership) that still continues today.
