Nichole Shustack, McDermott Will & Emery

Shustack is a key member of the firm's premier alcohol regulatory and distribution group. While her primary focuses are alcohol trade practice, regulatory, commercial agreements and distribution matters, she continues to expand her profile to include sustainability efforts within the alcohol industry.

To this end, Shustack recently played a pivotal role in assisting Beam Suntory, the producer of Jim Beam bourbon, in developing and launching their $400 million renewable energy expansion of the Brooker Noe distillery, Jim Beam's largest distillery in Kentucky. Beam specifically approached Nichole for guidance based on our alcohol team's trusted and strong relationship with Beam. Following successful contract negotiations, Beam will invest in a facility to convert spent stillage from the Booker Noe distillery into renewable natural gas (RNG). Along with using that RNG to power its own operations and cut greenhouse gas emissions and water usage, Beam's expansion will create 51 new local jobs, provide fertilizer byproducts from the RNG facility to local corn and wheat growers, and give Beam and 3Rivers Energy Partners an opportunity to supply additional RNG to the consumer market, among other benefits.
