As a young lawyer, I am going to be having my first jury trial soon. Are there some things I should or should not do involving a jury?

It is very exciting to have one’s first trial. One’s enthusiasm for their first trial will often make up for their lack of experience. There are some basic things that young lawyers or any lawyers should really not do. First, one should not be eating and drinking at counsel table. This writer remembers a very good trial lawyer—who later became a judge—used to have his table covered with candy, which he would eat throughout the trial. Though that lawyer was very successful in trials, the candy did not give the right impression. Something one does not want to do is eat in front of a jury, particularly since the jurors are not allowed to eat during the course of the trial.
