Recently, legal news outlets have been reporting on a far less happy situation regarding a 96-year-old judge serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit who is facing disciplinary proceedings for being too old and infirm to stay current with her workload.

If you missed the late-August 2023 oral argument session of the Pennsylvania Superior Court in Philadelphia, when end-of-summer vacation schedules are typically in full swing, you missed the final oral argument session at which Senior Judge Dan Pellegrini will be participating as a member of the Superior Court.
Pellegrini's complete judicial biography, available at the Superior Court's website, reveals a life dedicated to public service in one form or another. He joined the appellate bench in 1989—the same year I graduated from law school—elected as a judge of the Commonwealth Court. He was retained for two more 10-year terms as a judge of that court in 1999 and 2009.
